How to Update Windows Graphics Drivers

Jul 27 2020 by Amanda Dela Cruz

Are you using a Windows PC? Is it a desktop or a laptop? None of these matter. What you should be asking yourself is how to update Windows graphics drivers if you’re still unaware of doing so.

Today, you’re going to discover how to easily update your Windows graphics driver for your operating system. If you want to have a PC that’s always up-to-date and performs the way that it should, keep reading.

Why Updating Windows Graphics Drivers is Important

There are many reasons why graphics drivers need to be updated. However, the simple answer is that drivers are what sends your hardware the signal to perform exactly how they should with your operating system.

If these drivers are outdated, it may not be able to keep up with the current updates of your operating system. This is why it’s of paramount importance to always have all of the drivers, most especially the graphics drivers, to always be in tip-top shape.

Graphics are what encompasses the whole experience of a PC user. No matter what a user does with his computer, the graphics must always be smooth and fast. Having a faulty graphics driver while working, gaming, browsing the net, photo & video editing, and more can affect the overall experience because of slowdowns, lags, and worse… freezes.

Disclaimers before updating Windows Graphics Drivers

Before choosing to upgrade or update your drivers, you first must know that there are certain caveats to consider. You’re already on the first CORRECT step because you’re reading this article right now. However, to expound more about the disclaimers, let’s begin with…

Proper Research

There are plenty of websites that offer drivers for download. However, a lot of these are shady and may contain viruses. You don’t want to fall for this as hackers are very good at extorting and stealing. This is why it’s very important not to have your credit card numbers and IDs lying around in your computer without ample protection.

Furthermore, you may not be aware but once these hackers get to penetrate your computer, they will also be able to find a way to decrypt the passwords in your browser. We will get more into this in the next section.

Moreover, you must also know the model number of your hardware and peripherals for you to be able to get the proper driver that’s best suited for your PC parts. Some universal drivers may work but these won’t be able to ensure you the best performance.

More on Cyber Crimes

One popular way on how they take the victim’s money is through ransomware. Some of them will lock all of your data and even change your passwords which may cause a tantamount of problems most especially if your business is linked to the internet.

Once they have this sensitive data, they’ll offer you a ransom deal and it will be the only way for you to retrieve what they’ve taken from you. Added to that, they may not 100% give this information back and may duplicate your data to blackmail you instead; most especially if you’re keeping sensitive files like top secret information or photos and videos that are not safe for work.

Hundreds of millions of cyber crimes like theft, extortion, ransomware, and blackmail, happen every year. People are losing billions of money just by the simple neglect and oversight in PC security.

Only download drivers from Legit Sources

If you’re planning to update your graphics driver and other hardware, you must only go to the main website of the product’s brand. Don’t fall for services that you see online such as websites claiming to have a direct affiliation with different manufacturers.

Yes, there are legit ones and offer monthly subscriptions but nowadays, being leary is better than being gullible. You may easily download the driver from a legit source simply by looking at the box of the hardware or peripheral that you want to update. However, if you’ve lost the box, you may look at the stickers attached to the product.

If you can’t find both, you may run dxdiag on your Windows and hope that the model number is listed there. Now, if you’re using a laptop or a desktop that’s already built by the manufacturer as a set with the build having its own model number, you’re going to find updating drivers quite easily simply by googling the corresponding model codes.
